Tilcon Invests in Advanced Technology to Provide Ready Mix Colored Concrete on Demand
Section: Press Releases
Tilcon Connecticut has installed a CHROMIX® CAM (Coloring Admixture Measuring) System from BASF Admixtures, Inc. at its Hartford plant complementing the company’s existing line of performance-enhancing chemicals for ready mix. The new Color on Demand system has the ability to offer integrally colored concrete in more than 42 colors, from warm earth tones, vibrant hues to any shade of gray.
“Our customers can now enjoy the many benefits integral color brings to their business while capitalizing on this growing architectural concrete market. Tilcon is positioned to provide quality colored concrete for residential, commercial and industrial applications,” said Tilcon’s Manager of Concrete Chuck Latvis.
The innovative design of the CAM integral color system is engineered to be the industry’s most flexible and productive measuring system for liquid coloring admixtures, providing increased accuracy and ensuring batch-to-batch color consistency.
The CAM systems’ ability to uniformly color the concrete offers the following advantages: rich, full-depth, non-fading color, long-lasting, durable color finishes, improved resistance to freeze/thaw damage in colder climates, and better finish ability for contractors.
“When we use the liquid color pails, they have to be placed manually into the mixer, which could be a danger plus we would see variations in the color. With the integral color system, the color comes out of the hopper mixed perfectly so the final product comes out nice and even. I also save approximately $25 per yard as compared to the three-gallon liquid color pails I normally purchase,” said Eric Ocasio from Eric Ocasio Concrete LLC of Rocky Hill.
Builders, contractors, architects, designers and specifiers can expand their product offering and increase profit margins by offering a longer lasting and attractive concrete product, which adds real value to property at an affordable cost to the consumer.
To see examples of concrete use in residential construction, visit www.concretelifestyles.com. This site includes a Virtual Concrete Designer section that allows users to visualize the installation of colorful concrete in a variety of residential applications. Visitors can select driveways, pool decks or patios, then choose from color options, and a variety of texture and pattern alternatives for main areas and edging. Based on the input, the Virtual Designer then renders an image to illustrate the finished installation.
