Portland, CT Ready Mix Concrete Plant

Tilcon Connecticut’s Portland Ready Mix Concrete Plant won Honorable Mention in the 2004 NRMCA (National Ready Mixed Concrete Association) Commitment to Environmental Excellence Award. Annually the NRMCA calls for entries to participate in a national awards program designed to recognize “outstanding contributions to protecting the environment and maintaining sound management practices in their operations.” All fixed ready mix concrete plants in the United States, its territories, and Canada are eligible to enter the contest.

A panel consisting of regulatory officials as well as industry and environmental consultants judge the submitted entries based on a written narrative and up to ten photographs for each plant. The written narrative must address: Compliance History, Site Aesthetics, Written Plant Procedures, Training and Employee Involvement, Water/Solid Waste Management, Air Quality Management, Community Relations, Operating Challenges, Overall Management Commitment, and Environmental Delivery Awareness.
